How to Install SportsPress

The WordPress Dashboard

The WordPress dashboard is where we have full control of our website and its content. What we’re looking at here is a fresh install of WordPress so we don’t have any themes or plugins installed quite yet.

SportsPress Installation

Let’s install our first plugin directly from the Dashboard by going to Plugins and clicking Add New. We can search for plugins using the search box at the top. Let’s go ahead and search for SportsPress.

Great, so we found the plugin and we’re going to click Install. Once the plugin has been installed successfully, we’re going to click Activate Plugin.

Awesome, so now we see the Welcome screen for SportsPress. We can see three tabs here labeled: Get Started, Credits, and Translators. Right now, we’re only concerned with getting started so let’s go ahead with the Basic Setup.

Basic Setup

Okay so, let’s select a timezone. We can type in our city, or the closest city to us and it should appear in this box. I’m currently in Melbourne so I’ll go ahead and type that in.

Next, we’re asked to select a sport. SportsPress comes preinstalled with several presets, so we can check to see if there’s one for our sport but If we can’t find it in this list, we can select Custom to configure SportsPress manually.

For the purposes of this tutorial, we’ll be creating a soccer website so let’s go ahead and select the Soccer preset. We also want to install the demo content to help us understand how things fall into place. We can always edit, delete, or override the sample data when we’re ready to.

Then finally, we’re asked to select a mode. We’re given two option: Team vs. Team or Player vs. Player for individual sports. Since soccer is a Team Sport, we’re going to select Team vs. Team.

Let’s click Save Changes.

Great, so now we can see some new links and a video about SportsPress.
